The wines of Jura

Documentary evidence of vines in the Jura dates back to the 10^th century, but they are far older, probably as early as the 3^rd century. The wines of Arbois were mentioned as some of the most prestigious along with the wines of Beaune, Epernay and Bordeaux. Today, 1850 hectares are cultivated.

Chardonnay and Savagnin grapes are used for the whites and Pinot Noir, Trousseau and Poulsard for the red and rose wines.

The Savagnin is the true inspiration of the characterful Jura whites. It is aromatic, complex, powerful with a fruity noise and suitable for ageing. It is also a good introduction towards tasting the famous Vin Jaune.

Vin Jaune, yellow wine is the wine of kings and also the king of wines and it is certainly the most eminent representative of the Jura wine region. This rare nectar, of remarkable character, is found in 62 cl bottle, called a clavelin. As soon as you open the bottle, a firework display of aromas will flatter your nose and delight your palate: nuts, dried fruits, almond and spices.

Vin de paille or straw wine is, by excellence, the nectar of patience. Our vin de paille, f rom Domaine de la Pinte is a blend of Savagnin and Poulsard grapes. Over 3 kg of grapes will be needed for you to enjoy the 375 ml bottle of this nectar. Try it as an aperitif, with foie gras or even with chocolate desserts, tartes aux fruits.

Macvin du Jura. It is obtained from non-fermented grape juice (ours is from Savagnin) to which is added a third of marc. It is then aged 3 years in barrels. To be enjoyed chilled as an aperitif, melon.

Cremant du Jura. Our Cremant from Domaine de la Pinte is made from a blend of Savagnin and Chardonnay. Can be enjoyed as an aperitif, with desserts or throughout a celebration meal.
